Description
Tod Pardon Silver, Multicolored Resin and Black Acrylic 'Zivie Zig Zag' Brooch
Signed Zivie ZigZag, T Pardon, no. 00501, with maker's mark, ap. 33 dwts. gross. With exhibition pamphlet.
Earl Pardon (1926-1991), was a pioneer of the studio craft movement. He was trained as a fine artist having graduated with a degree in painting from the Memphis Academy of Arts in 1951 and later with his M.F.A degree from Syracuse University in 1959. Known for his textural collages in silver, gold and swatch-like flat, colorful segments, his painting and sculpture remained an obvious influence throughout his career. His work is in the permanent collections of Smithsonian Institution and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Earl trained his son Tod Pardon in a variety of his unique metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques. Tod, in search of a career distinct from that of his father, originally pursued painting and ceramics. However, upon his father's death, Tod returned to jewelry. While many elements of Tod Pardon's work harken back to his father, Tod's series of figural brooches speak to a style all his own.
