18th century red-painted round pantry box, with finger laps, used as a ginger box by four generations of women, initialed ''PB'' and marked ''Polly Bliss Born 1770'' on bottom; with handwritten letter detailing provenance, signed ''Harriet L. Saunders'' and dated ''Dec 11 - 1928.'' Additional marks on bottom added later. Minor splits, wear and paint losses. 2-5/8''h, 4-1/4''dia. Provenance: Estate of Joseph ''Jay'' St. Mark, PhD, of Newtown, Connecticut, historian, appraiser, and collector of fine Americana.
