Five-Piece American Rococo Revival Rosewood Half-Tester Bed Set

third quarter 19th century, attributed to Joshua Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio, comprised of a bed, h. 114", inside w. 64", l. 84", outside w. 72", l. 92", an armoire, h. 108", w. 66", d. 26", a marble-top dresser, h. 100", w. 53", d. 24", a marble-top washstand, h. 46", w. 40-1/2", d. 20", and an associated marble-top half commode, h. 29", w. 26", d. 19".

The bed has been cut down approximately 12 inches. The sections of each post were saved and are present. The crest has old repairs and small losses. The left post is loose at its middle joint. There is a small chip to the tip of the finial on the left footboard post. The canopy has a chip to the back left corner. Some old cracks, dents, and imperfections, consistent with age and use. Two small finials from around the canopy are missing. The large finials on the bed and armoire have chipped losses and old repairs. The armoire has four small finials missing along the cornice molding. Scattered veneer chips under the drawers. Minor cracks to the side moldings and small chips to the back right edge of the top. Lacking its crest. The dresser has two old repairs to the front left corner of the marble. Glued repairs to the brackets holding the candle shelves. The washstand has old stains to the marble. Lacking the candle shelves. Lacking two turned buttons on the side columns. The upper hinge on the left door is slightly forcing the frame to crack. The screws need to be reset. The associated marble-top half commode has stains and hairlines to the marble. Lacking its backsplash. All pieces retain a good, old, professional refinish.
