Description
Kawashima, Tatsuo (Japanese born, 1939), Village of Yuge, 1980, color woodblock, 12.5 x 17 inches, pencil signed and numbered 132/300, unframed, Tatsuo Kawashima (b. 1939) was born in Kyoto, Japan, and acquired his carving and printing skills as an employee of the Uchida Arts Woodblock Company of Kyoto from 1950 through 1979. In the 1960s, he began to experiment with designs for his own woodblock prints in a contemporary style. In 1980, he released some of his first popular designs in a larger format, drawing his subject matter from the countryside around his hometown of Kyoto. Kawashima retired and is no longer producing woodblock prints.
Condition
