Elisha Kirkall (around 1682 - 1742 ) after Thomas Baston (18th century): Sea battle of the British Navy, burning of the enemy fleet, c. 1720, Etching
Technique: Etching on Paper
Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "TBaston delin. / E. Kirkall sculp.". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Furit Immissis Vulcanus habenis, Transtra per et remos et pictas abjete puppes. / Virgil".
Date: c. 1720
Description: Impressive depiction of a naval battle of the Royal Navy against an unknown navy. The enemy ships are fired at with glowing cannonballs and are ablaze. In the water some lifeboats.

Condition
Very good condition. Long faint crease on the lower margin. Some pale foxing visible on the margin. Signature at lower right somewhat rubbed or weak impression.
