JAMES DONALD PAINTER (American/Texas 1906-1988) A PAINTING, "Frequently the Trees Undress," 1983, gouache on board, signed L/L "J. PAINTER ©," reverse with old Meredith Long & Company paper label on backing; 26 1/2" x 39 3/4", framed 34 1/2" x 48". Note: James Donald Painter studied art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and established himself as a painter of landscapes and historical sites near Round Top, Texas. He has been exhibited at numerous museums and is included in the Texas State Historical Association handbook. He held several one-man and group shows at Meredith Long Gallery in Houston and was honored by the Festival-Institute at Round Top with their inaugural solo show in 1987. It is unusual to have a work by Painter come up for auction.
Condition
There is some minor surface dust and some areas of faint craquelure, but no visible signs of damage or conservation.
