Description
first half 19th century, 309 x 185 cm, North East Caucasus, Daghestan
SABAHI, TAHER, Kelims - Kaukasische Flachgewebe. Augsburg 1992, ill. p. 92
Large red palmettes with serrated outlines and a flowering plant growing from a bowl as their interior motif have been spaciously arranged in three vertical rows in the blue field. They are linked by thin red poles decorated with nine abstract birds. The rug depicts a tree design in the abstract style that is a characteristic feature of these Avar kilims from Daghestan. Very finely woven using lazy lines, colours of the best quality. One of the oldest known examples of the group. â€â€œ Good condition.
