Description
In the red field of this early rug from the oasis town of Khotan, large dark blue disc medallions are embedded in a basic design of leaves and blossoms. The central medallion is decorated with angular yellow stems and leaves as well as four red pomegranates; the other two medallions each contain four star-shaped blossoms. At each end of the field there is a small brown vase with branches emerging from it. Triangular brown meandering lattices with fine blue outlines fill the spandrels. The blue main border with multiple abrash and a design of endless knots is particularly beautiful. A first-rate collectorâ€â„¢s piece of cultural and historic importance. â€â€œ A number of expertly restored areas, good condition.
