Description
mid 19th century, a = 77 x 118 cm b= 76 x 118 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
COHEN, JAMES, Turkoman. Milan 2011, no. 21
Turkmen asmalyks are trappings that were suspended from both flanks of the camel on which the bride, seated in a veiled litter, was led to the bridegroomâ€â„¢s tent on the day of the wedding. Although they were always made in pairs, they rarely survive as a pair. This constitutes the particular value of these two Karadashli asmalyks; moreover, they are of excellent quality. â€â€œ Slight signs of age and wear; one of the asmalyks shows slight damage along the lower edge.
