1) M1796. A good example of a British M1796 heavy troopers saber. Overall length 40 1/4". Blade length 35". Heavy plain single fullered blade marked on the spine “JOSH H. REDDELL & CO.” There are 2 faint proof marks on the blade. Large iron disk guard with 10 piercings. Integral iron knuckle bow and backstrap with ears. Leather wrap grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish and has been lightly cleaned. There are several nicks to the edge. Hilt is quite solid. Grip is nearly complete showing light to moderate wear. 2) M1821. A very nice and interesting M1821 cavalry officers saber produced in India for mounted Indian units. Overall length 43". Blade length 35 1/2". Blade is etched over the first 18" with a plethora of foliate motifs as well as a crowned “GR” on each side. Blade is stamped at the ricasso “BADHAM, PILE & CO LD BOMBAY, POONA SECUNDERABAD”. Steel 2 branch semi-basket guard flows into the knuckle bow and joins the stepped pommel. The lower half of the backstrap has raised crosshatching. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard has been plated first with copper and then with nickel. CONDITION: blade has a light gray mottled patina with a few areas of cleaned minor pitting. Hilt shows light wear overall. Grip is nearly complete and wire is complete but a bit dislodged. Scabbard shows light general wear. (02-18151-2/BF). $700-1,000.
