FIVE 18TH / 19TH CENTURY PORTRAIT PLAQUETTES
comprising:
1. BRITISH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY: HORATIO, ADMIRAL LORD NELSON (1758-1805), oval cast brass portrait plaquette, bemedaled and uniformed bust three-quarters right, large integral suspension loop, 172 x 130mm.
2. GEORGE GORDON, 6TH LORD BYRON (1788-1824), silhouetted oval cast brass portrait plaquette, three-quarters left, on circular turned wood mount, 143mm.
3. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (1564-1616), small silhouetted bust left in gilt brass, in circular wooden frame, 135mm.
4. JOHN WESLEY, a cast brass portrait of a cleric, probably John Wesley (1703-1791), bust right, on rectangular brass backplate, 102.5 x 104mm.
5. AFTER JEAN WARIN (FRENCH, ?1596-1672): AN OVAL CAST BRONZE PORTRAIT PLAQUE OF ST. PAUL THE APOSTLE, his bearded bust right, the left hand across his breast, 128.5 x 106mm., in ebonised frame
The German medallist Leonard Posch (1750-1831) made a version of the plaque, whist attributing the original to Antonio Abondio.
