Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist who became a leading figure in the pop art movement of the 1960s. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and initially worked as a commercial illustrator and graphic designer in New York City. He rose to fame in the 1960s with his distinctive approach to art, which featured images from popular culture, such as Campbell's soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, and images of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Warhol's art was characterized by a strong focus on mass-produced images and consumer culture, and he was known for his use of bold, bright colors and repetitive patterns.
