Queen Elizabeth II is the former monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms. She was born on April 21, 1926, in London, England, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
Elizabeth II ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, after the death of her father, King George VI. At the time, she was just 25 years old and has since become the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
