Original brick orange cloth, top edge stained red; original unclipped dust jacket (discreetly restoration to 2-inch tear on front panel near flap, tiny chips to extreme ends and corners reinforced on verso with tissue). Provenance: Larry McMurtry (his bookplate, which he designed, features the horseshoe-shaped brand his father and grandfather used on the McMurtry cattle), from his personal library at his home in Archer City.
FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR’S FIRST BOOK, based on his experiences as a migrant worker during the Depression. In the RARE DUST JACKET. Larry McMurtry once wrote that Nelson Algren held the best literary claim to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
