Description
Spanish Colonial 16th-17th century "Bombard" or "Thunder Cup" used widely throughout Spanish conquest in naval operations as a signal cannon or projectile.
Approximately 8lbs 9.4oz, heavily used cylindric iron signal mortar with handle and lightly tapering rim, large 3/4" bore, base slightly swept and teetered forward from handle, touch hole to left off center. The handle is heavy and cast original to the piece so as to adjust pitch and direction of the projectile. 5 1/4" H x 5 1/2" W
