**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Greek, Classical Period, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A lovely pair of electrum fibula brooches, both over 50% gold (equivalent to 13K+ to 14K+) with an elegant arched form. The terminal clasp end has a hook and large spheres and the opposite projecting palmette flange is pierced for securing the pin. Fibulae were brooches used to fasten or pin garments such as cloaks by various ancient cultures. In addition to being functional - taking the place of straight pins used during the Neolithic and Bronze Age - these accessories were quite decorative. Size: 1.25" L x 0.4" W (3.2 cm x 1 cm); electrum quality: 54.2% to 58.93% (equivalent to 13K+ to 14K+) gold; 37% to 42% silver; total weight: 9.4 grams

Condition
Missing pins on both and loss to palmette surface on one. Arches are otherwise intact and very good. Light mineral encrustation on the surfaces.
