Description
From the vicinity of Dibulla, Colombia, circa 1000-1550 AD. Lovely carnelian barrel shaped beads with central coca spoon pendant. The red stone (could be brecciated jasper) Coca implement spoon carved with receptacle at end for grinding lime to mix with coca leaves so the narcotic can enter the bloodstream. Pierced for suspension. This is paraphernalia for drug preparation! Size 20 inches (50.8 cm) L. Spoon: 3.5 inches (8.9 cm). The Tairona Indians lived along the Caribbean coast of Colombia, South America, in the mountains of the Sierra Madre de Santa Marta.Provenance: Kenneth and Barbara Bower collection, Land's Beyond Gallery, NYC.
