Description
Ca. 1504-1450 BC. This green-glazed steatite scarab is inscribed with the cartouche of Thutmose III of Dynasty 18. The scarab is naturalistic formed creating the appearance of a scarab beetle, the reverse is inscribed by flanked by mirror images of the symbolic ‘Seat of Isis’, the cartouche at the top of the scarab reads Mn-khpr-re (the royal throne name of Thutmose III). Beneath, Goddess Isis is pictured as a magnificent bird spreading her wings. Cf. Andrews, Carol, 1994 Amulets of Ancient Egypt.
