Three crosses, adorned with baubles and crafted with exquisite precision, stand before us, each a testament to the bravery and dedication of those who have been honored with their award. Two of these crosses are of the esteemed IV class, the Officer's Cross, signifying the exceptional service and unwavering commitment of those who wear them. The third, slightly smaller in size, bears the mark of the V class, the Knight's Cross, representing the valiant contributions of its recipients. At the heart of each cross lies a circular plaque, surrounded by a border of deep blue enamel, emblazoned with the phrase "POLONIA RESTITUTA" - a stirring call to the restoration of Poland's proud heritage. In the center of the plaque, a vivid red field is decorated with a stunning white eagle, wearing a golden crown and gazing steadfastly to the left. Turning to the reverse of the central plaque, we are greeted with another striking symbol - the golden "1918" emblem, which carries great significance for the people of Poland. This is the year when Poland regained its independence, after 123 years of foreign rule. A year that marked the beginning of a new era, one of hope, determination, and resilience. The Order of Polonia Restituta was founded in 1921, following Poland's regained independence, as a way to honor those who had contributed to the rebuilding of the country. It was initially awarded for civil and military merit, but later expanded to include cultural, scientific, and other contributions.
