RIAA 8x Multi-Platinum Award for Vanilla Ice album To The Extreme. Released on Sept. 3, 1990, the album was certified 7x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for five million copies sold on Jan. 9, 1991. While the award states eight million sold, the RIAA database shows it has topped out at seven million. This could be an error in the RIAA database or an error by the award maker, it is not clear.

The global hit "Ice Ice Baby", with its' famously sampled bass line from Queen/David Bowie track "Under Pressure", topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart shortly after its release as a single in 1990 and is said by some to be the first hip-hop track to achieve this feat. A cover of Wild Cherry's 1977 hit "Play That Funky Music" also got airplay. The album went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and in many other world markets.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA 8x Multi-Platinum award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 1991, making it approximately 32 years old. It is presented to Pete Ganbarg, who has held various executive roles in the music industry including President of A&R at Atlantic Records and President of ATCO Records, among others.

It is all original with unopened backing paper, Ill-Eagle Enterprises manufacturer sticker and all correct components. This award is in VG condition, with only very minor mars on the frame (including slight lifting on the bottom frame rail) and plexiglass, and some discoloration on the backing paper (does not affect the matte or frontal appearance).

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
