Description
Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a Swedish artist and spiritualist who is best known for her abstract paintings. She was a pioneer of abstract art and created some of the earliest examples of non-representational painting, predating the work of famous abstract artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, and Piet Mondrian.
Af Klint's work was inspired by spiritualism, Theosophy, and other esoteric beliefs. She believed that her art was a means of communicating with the spiritual world and that her paintings contained hidden meanings and messages. Af Klint worked in relative obscurity during her lifetime, as she did not exhibit her abstract paintings publicly until the 1980s, many years after her death.
Today, Hilma af Klint is recognized as an important and influential figure in the development of abstract art, and her work has been exhibited in museums around the world.
