Description

By Shepard Hardware Company. Buffalo, New York - Circa Early 1890's. Shepard Hardware's version of the Artillery Bank was given a metallic finish, either nickel plated or copper flashed. For historical reference, by the 1890's, the USA had reached the highest point of economic boom since the Civil War; a period that would later be given the name the "Gilded Age". When it was first made, this toy bank would have resembled a gleaming piece of silver, a very appropriate aesthetic for this time period.
