A selection of scarce underground newspapers and magazines from the offices of The San Francisco Phoenix, likely sent for review purposes. Many with mailing labels to the Phoenix still affixed. The publication dates mostly range from 1967-74. Publications include The Washington City Independent, Space City News, Other Scenes, Real Free Express, East Bay Bridge, Ferret, and many others. Also included is a flyer for The Rainbow of Poetry reading, billed as the longest continuous poetry reading in the history of the world, held at the Rainbow Sign Cultural Center in Berkeley. The San Francisco Phoenix was edited by John Bryan.
