This antique c.1830s French writer's set is a true work of art, featuring an ebony desk set with fine old French sterling silver vermeil (18k gold over sterling silver) trim marked with tiny punch marks indicating its .800/1000 pure silver content. The blade is acid-engraved in the Japonaise or Chinoise style, popular during Napoleon's Empire conquests, while the monogram features a Marquis crown. The ebony handles are exquisitely crafted, and only one tip or nib is missing, easily replaceable from any art supply store. Though the presentation box shows some signs of age and deterioration, the writer's tools themselves are in excellent condition, elegantly crafted and well-preserved.
