Abstract composition of yellow, green, black, gray, white, red, and blue depicting varying shapes and patterns titled "America: the third century" created in 1976. Lichtenstein Parsons School of Design and with Reginald Marsh at the Art Students League before attending Ohio State University. He began teaching at Rutgers where he met Allan Kaprow, and through him ultimately met artists Claes Oldenburg and Jim Dine. Lichtenstein's landmark exhibition occurred in 1962 at Castelli Gallery with enlarged advertisements and comic strips, which in turn made is paintings become widespread and popular.
