Edge stamped for J. E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia. In original leather-covered case with Caldwell marking. 3" D, 4 1/4" x 4 1/2" case.

Catalogue Note: “Philip Gell Kewanee, IL Philip Gell, 63, mine general superintendent, helped to save Andrew Bogus, 29, and assisted in an attempt to save Edward Wyatt, 41, shot firers, from suffocation, Gilchrist, Illinois, November 22, 1909. (See case of JAMES BENNIE.) Gell entered the mine with Bennie and Mills and remained with Wyatt while the others took Bogus to the surface and returned with other men. 6202-836”
