HARRISON FAMILY DESCENDANT AGASSIZ SWISS 14K YELLOW GOLD-CASED POCKET WATCH, pendant-set movement, serial number 106361, having a white enamel dial with Arabic chapter ring and Arabic outer track, sunk seconds subsidiary, and blued-steel spade hands, housed in an open-face 14K yellow gold watch case with personalized engraving to cuvette cover that reads, "Cleves H. Howell / From / Father and Mother / Aug-13-1901". Back of movement with marks, interior case cover and cuvette cover marked "14K / 106361". Total weight including non-gold components and excluding crystal: 72.0 grams. Agassiz, Geneva, Switzerland. Early 20th century. Approximate size 10s.
Catalogue Note: Owner identified as Cleves Harrison Howell, who was born on August 13, 1880 in Keokuk, Iowa to parents Harrison Scott Howell (1830-1909) and Lucy Singleton Taylor (1838-1906). His maternal grandfather and grandmother were William Henry Harrison Taylor (1813-1894) and Anna Tuthill Harrison Taylor (1813-1865). Through his grandmother, Cleves was the great-grandson of William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), who served as the 9th U.S. President for 32 days before his death. Through his grandfather and grandmother, he was also the great great-/ great great great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison (1726-1791), who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and served as the Governor of Virginia amongst other political offices.

Condition

Good to very good overall condition with minor wear, minor to moderate surface scratches, dial with a few hairlines and a significant scratch at the lower sections including on seconds subsidiary, seconds hand with loss to bluing and slight bending, gold-plated bow and crown with losses to gold, case with a few minute/small dents, crystal currently detached but included.
