A wonderful first edition of "A Son of the Sun," written by Jack London (American, 1876 to 1916) and published by Doubleday, Page & Company in 1912. Covered in dark blue cloth boards, the front and spine are adorned with the name of the author, the title, and the image of a sailing ship with clouds, all in gray, white, and orange pigments. The impressive novel is illustrated with a frontispiece and 3 inserted plates by A.O. Fischer and C. W. Ashley and contains 333 pages that detail 8 exhilarating tales set in the South Pacific at the beginning of the 20th century. Our main protagonist is David Grief, who is a 40-year-old English adventurer. This intrepid voyager has amassed wealth spread throughout the islands of the Pacific where he frequently partakes in daring escapades involving pirates, cannibals, swashbucklers, and scoundrels. Size: 5.4" L x 1.3" W x 7.6" H (13.7 cm x 3.3 cm x 19.3 cm)
Born John Griffith Chaney, Jack London was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist who became one of the first American authors to gain international celebrity status. Considered an innovator of science fiction, London was a passionate advocate of unionization, workers' rights, and socialism. He is most famous for writing "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang," both set in the Klondike Gold Rush which London joined at the age of 21 in 1897.

Very good without dust jacket. Minor loosening of binding. Fraying and bending to corners of cover and head and tail of spine. Some soft surface wear to cover and light staining to page edges.
