Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Dayak peoples, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A weaving implement with a wrought iron awl tip and a wooden handle carved into an anthropomorphic figure with inlaid glass bead eyes. Included is a tapered leaded-brass tubular piece that serves as a stand or case for the tool. This brass item was likely part of a separate object entirely, such as a lime container. Size: 1.375" W x 6.4" H (3.5 cm x 16.3 cm); 7.2" H (18.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Ami Brown collection, New York City, USA, 1950-1970

Condition
Implement is removable from body. Stabilization to one lengthy fissure on wooden implement handle, with light adhesive along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to wooden handle and body, with light encrustations on housing and iron tool. Nice patina throughout.
