Description
Central Africa, Congo Region, Probably Ngombe, Doko, or Iboko peoples, Circa 1900 or just after. Executioners sword of the Ngombe tribe, engraved throughout the blade with notched marks and vertical lines, blade with a sweeping shape consisting of several pointed protrusions at the back and a flat sharpened spike. The Grip in a heavy wrapped steel wire with turned wood below and steel hook for suspension. Old Museum inventory label from the Christensen Fund Collection reading # "982 / L112 CC-40505" Size overall 22" L, blade 16 1/4" L.
