Description
(Attributed to) Lew Wallace, American (1827–1905.) "Portrait of a Young Muslim Man." Oil on canvas, canvas laid onto compressed paper board, in contemporary gilt frame. Sight 19.5" x 15.25". Consignor states that the painting was purchased in the late 1990s from the estate of a descendant of the Wallace family (who understood the painting was by their relative, Lew Wallace.) Lew Wallace was U.S. minister to Turkey under Garfield and made many oils that are Turkish themed, including for example his well known portrait of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
