Description
Stock certificate reflecting one share of stock in the International Merchant Marine Company. The International Mercantile Marine Company was formed in the early twentieth century by shipping magnates Clement Griscom of the American Line and Red Star Line, Bernard N. Baker of the Atlantic Transport Line, J. Bruce Ismay of the White Star Line, and John Ellerman of the Leyland Line. The project was bankrolled by J.P. Morgan & Co., led by financier J. P. Morgan. The International Mercantile Marine Company was a holding company that controlled numerous subsidiary corporations, notably including the White Star Line, which owned the RMS Titanic. The RMS Titanic was the flagship of the IMM/White Star fleet and sank on her maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. IMM Founder J. Bruce Ismay was one of the survivors of the tragedy.
