Description
Armand Albert Rateau (French, 1882-1938).

An exquisite pair of Art Nouveau / Art Deco gilt dore bronze Swan Sconces with Louis Comfort Tiffany shades. Titled: "COL DE CYGNE" circa 1920. These stunning sconces are a true masterpiece of the Nouveau movement, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail that is synonymous with this period. The sconces feature swans with gracefully curved necks, outstretched wings holding a drop chain with attached bronze bell form in its beak having four figural moths or butterflies insects atop. Highlighted with L.C.T. art glass shades which create a warm and inviting glow when illuminated. The swans are crafted from high-quality gilt bronze, a material that was popular during the Art Nouveau era for its warm golden hue and ability to hold intricate details, such as the life like feathers and scale patterns adorning the swan's bodies. The sconces are mounted on a rectangular gilt bronze backplate, which provides a secure and stable mounting surface for the fixtures.

A highly sought after example of Rateau, known for his organic flowing forms with ornate details. Both sconces having A. RATEAU PARIS stamp to bottom of tail forms. Accompanied by Tiffany L.C.T. golden tulip form light lamp shades in lustrous iridescent finish. Both shades monogrammed L.C.T. Each shade measures approximately 5" x 4" x 4". Each sconce measures approximately 18" x 6" x 8" with shade.



Dimensions: 18 X 6 X 8 in.

Condition: Good antique overall condition having average surface wear, toning and patina. Please refer to all photos for true physical condition. One lamp shade having losses with prominent cracks; however, it has been stabilized with adhesive, needing either restoration or a factory replacement. The other lamp shade is in Good condition. The pair of sconces are being sold untested and may require wiring, service, parts and/or repair. Estate fresh to the market.
