This sculpture documents the sacrificial aspect of the Lakota Sun Dance ceremony where as a part of this ritual, men's flesh is pierced and the wood pegs used to do this are tethered to buffalo skulls which they drag over rocks and brush as a part of the dance ceremony. The ritual is meant to reunite and reconnect the people with earth and the spirits, calling for renewal of life and a prayer for life.

This work is titled, signed and dated on the bronze base.

Measures 14 x 9.75 x 8 inches.
