Description
Oil on canvas, 38 x 26 inches. Herbert Leopold was born July 24, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to immigrant parents from Belgium and Russia. He lived and studied in Italy from 1949-1953. Upon his return, he settled in York, Pennsylvania, where he taught art and history at York College, and worked on large scale projects including public murals and stained glass designs for churches. Following a near fatal accident in 1969, Leopold switched almost exclusively to sculpture as his medium of choice, and was a member of the The American Medallic Sculptor Association.
