Engr. 1877" From Wilson's annual report 1878, with two accompanying folding plates and text. Inset graph shows profile of centre line of canal. Brig. Gen. John Moulder Wilson, corps of engineers was awarded the Medal of Honor for valor at Malvern Hill in 1862. Assigned to many large scale engineering projects, he completed the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. 1888-89. He then served five years as Superintendent at West Point before being appointed Chief of Engineers.
