This work was appraised as a Kanemoto (new sword period) and a preserved sword. Along with Kanesada, "Kanemoto" is one of the representative blacksmiths of Mino blacksmithing, and along with "Muramasa" of Ise, is the most popular swordsmith in the city.The name of "Kanemoto" in the new sword period has been inherited by the Nara school and Tokuin school, and "Tashiro Genichi Kanemoto" of the Nara school joined the "Kanetsune" family and made swords until the end of the Edo period. 先幅：24mm『兼元』は『兼定』とならび美濃鍛冶を代表する鍛冶で伊勢の『村正』とならび市中ででもっとも親しまれた刀工である。同工は寛政九年(1797）に刊行された「懐宝剣尺」で「最上大業物」に指定され、天下無双の切れ味を誇る逸品との風説が広まった。　室町時代、古刀期の『兼元』の名は同銘数代続き、今日では技倆もっとも優れた二代を指して『孫六兼元』と汎称している。初代の兼元は文明から永正ごろとされ、三本杉風の刃文は希有で、所詮三本杉状の互の目を創始したのは二代の兼元である。　新刀期の『兼元』の名跡は、奈良派と得印派に受け継がれており、奈良派の『田代源一兼元』は『兼常』一門に合流して幕末頃まで作刀し、得印派の『金子孫六』は寛永頃（～1643)の孫六四代まで鍛冶職が継承された。　会津最期の名工、会津兼定十一代は初銘『兼元』を名乗り、十六歳で会津藩の御用を勤めて文久三年十二月(1863)に『和泉守』を受領、『兼定』と改銘している。本作は兼元（新々刀）と保存刀剣で鑑定された。幕末の新々刀の兼元は会津11代和泉守兼定か11代の弟子の兼元しか現存していないようです。
