Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica Argenta Cricket and Football 'Athletic' Jug
Designed by Charles Toft, date code ORH for 1879
Of tapering cylindrical form, the rim with tasseled pennants, the foot with circular bosses, molded with paired sportsman playing either cricket or soccer, impressed uppercase mark and 80, painted pattern no. M2836 / 1, height 6 inches; Together with a Griffen Smith & Hill Etruscan Majolica 'Argenta' Soccer and Baseball Athletic Jug; Modified after a design by Charles Toft, circa 1880, of tapering cylindrical form, the rim with tasseled pennants, the foot with circular bosses, molded with paired sportsman playing either baseball or soccer, impressed GSH monogram mark and E6, height 7 7/8 inches; Together with an American Majolica Brown-Ground Baseball Jug. Circa 1880, of tapering cylindrical form, both sides molded with baseball players, unmarked, height 8 inches.
