Minton Majolica Hot-Chestnut Server with Spoon and Brass Warmer
Shape no. 594, date cypher for 1858
Applied with an open chestnut, the leaves forming a half cover, the border molded with stylized sprays of leaves on a brown-ground, below a shaped rim, the turquoise interior fitted with a pierced brass insert, the matching spoon as strawberry vine, the conjoined stems held by a pink ribbon, impressed uppercase mark and M, shape no., the spoon with black painted 3 (3). Diameter of server 10 inches; length of spoon 8 inches.
The pierced brass plate allowed the hot water below to warm the chestnuts. Additional variations of this model were made at St. Honoré and Luneville.
