An alabaster vessel of a wide and shallow body, stepped-in flange, and raised rim. The vessel sits on a flat base, giving it stability and a classic, timeless look. Alabaster was prized for its unique properties in ancient Egypt, and vessels made of this material were highly valued and sought after by the wealthy and powerful. Alabaster vessels were usually used as containers for expensive perfumes and oils.

Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
