Description
Outstanding classical double panel Federal wall mirror, early 19th century, probably Massachusetts, in the school of Samuel McIntire - Central finial of an intricately carved wooden eagle on plinth, bordered by urns in each corner, gesso horn-of-plenty affixed to front - upper frieze panel with gold leaf decorations including rosettes, on original white background - rosettes in 4 corners with some losses - mirror flanked by architectural reeded columns - 26.25"W x 50.75"H. Note - Original script on reverse appears to read "Glass - J.V. Porter - Beverly Mass". Appears to be all original, but unsure if glass was replaced. See condition report below.
Condition
Regarding the mirror itself, my uneducated guess is that its an older mirror, but not original. The backboards where removed at one time then reapplied so can only speculate mirror replacement may have been the cause.
