Description

Pair of Art Glass Gold Fleck Dusted Apple paperweight with one stem and leaves which is sure to make you the Teacher's Pet. Wonderful for the display case, bookshelf or dinner table centerpiece arrangement from a poisoned apple on Halloween to a table's centerpiece during Christmas.
The gold flecks (aka aventurine when heated makes these) suggests this Apple is from MURANO's Seguso glass makers. It could well be a Murano apple! It's clearly NOT from a mold and it has a mark on its bottom from where the pontil was withdrawn during the hand blown glass making process.
Piece weighs 235g or 8oz and is of a H L and W of 3 1/2" 3 1/2" and 3 1/2" or a circumference of 11".
And you're Golden... dusted; along with your tablescape.
Aventurine, a glass that was popular in the 18th century, features a multitude of brilliantly sparkling tiny metallic flakes (Beaker with Chalcedony Glass and Aventurine). Although the flakes look like gold, they are, in fact, copper crystals. In order for them to form properly and to “grow” to the right size, the molten raw materials must be brought up to a specific maximum temperature at the correct rate, held there for just the right amount of time, and then—most critically—cooled inordinately quickly. Any errors at any stage would result in a failed melt. This is the basis of the name aventurine: making this specialty glass was considered a risky and potentially costly adventure.
