Description

ANTIQUE PAINTED ROOT HEAD COOT DECOY, FOLK ART WOODCARVING
Hand carved root head coot decoy. Solid hard wood body is hand carved with the grain running front to back and the neck and head being made of one piece of branch or “root”. White paint decorates the beak and 2 areas under tail and with two red eyes. This woodcarving coot duck has a round weight secured at bottom to stabilize floating in water, and retaining a small piece of rope attached to a U shaped hook.
Dating from 1880 - 1910.
Both sport hunters and folk art collectors will appreciate these original root head decoy with dry surface paint. This black coot duck was found in the state of Massacheusettes.
This Folk Art Bird carving Decoy has a wonderful Naive, Folk art style and would be great in a hunting, primitive or rustic décor setting.
CONDITION
This duck decoy is in very good condition, commensurate with age, retaining original paint and lead weight on bottom. No paint loss or cracks/splits in wood and no repairs.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS
Measures 10-1/2" long x 7-1/2" high x 4-3/4" wide.
