East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful brass box inlaid with a 1911 Chinese Yuan / dollar coin commemorating the 3rd year under the reign of Aisin-Gioro Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty. The coin is inlaid in a circular lidded box and the coin's reverse face is visible on the interior lid. These coin containers were popular for use as inkpad holders and interestingly this type of large coin was inspired by the Spanish dollars and Mexican Pesos circulating around the East Asia due to the colonization of the Philippines.
