Description
Two very fine Satsuma ceramic figurines of Daikoku and Fukurokuju, with overglaze enamel and gold gilt. Japan, signed Kizan, Meiji Period (1868-1912). Decorated in multi-color enamel with gilt decoration over crackled glaze. Excellent condition. Heavily adorned with beautiful polychrome enamel and gold gilt. Robes are decorated in floral patterns and roundels of auspicious emblems. Height of Daikoku: 4 in (10.16 cm), Height of Fukurokuju: 4 1/2 in (11.4 cm). Excellent condition. Daikoku, the God of Wealth is seated on a large rice bale and holding his lucky mallet. Fukurokuju, the God of Longevity is standing, wearing a richly decorated robe, holding a staff. Both figures garments are covered with enamel of iron-red, blue and gilt with auspicious symbols. From the collection of Stanley and Susan Reifer, Sag Harbor, NY, acquired 1990s.
