Description
Flambe glazed porcelain vase or bowl of unusual form; four lobes each with a raised central vein, the vein white as the glaze thins on the high point. The vase is said, according to a c.1940 note inside, to represent the flower, (in bud) of the Paulownia or Empress tree. The exterior is deep oxblood red; the interior has the same glaze but with streaks of blue that end in a turquoise blue swirl in the center. The note dates the bowl to the Kangxi period. The glaze and the outer edge of the unglazed foot ring are trimmed. Inner edge of foot rim is burnt deep orange. Center of base with whitish glaze, no mark. Includes later Japanese carved wood stand. Vase / bowl, (excluding stand,) approx. 8 1/2" L x 7 1/4" W x 5 1/2" H.
