Sir William Jardine (1800-1874), THE NATURALIST'S LIBRARY. Mixed sets published in Edinburgh by W.H. Lizars, 39 volumes.
A near complete set of 8vo volumes from different editions, the majority of which are from 1843; other editions include 1834 (Vol. 9), 1836 (Vols. 3 & 11), 1838 (Vol. 17), and 1842 (Vol. 1). Covers a number of different natural history subjects, including Mammalia, Ornithology, Icthyology, and Entomology, each prepared by a contemporary leading naturalist. Includes over 1300 hand-coloured, steel-plate engravings by W.H. Lizars. Bookplates from the Lizars library present in many of the volumes.
Provenance: Inherited by direct descent from the library of W.H. Lizars.
