Deutsche Erstausgabe - Übersetzung des 1920 erschienenen Dramas "RUR - Rossum's Universal Robots" des tschechischen Schriftstellers Karel Capek. Das Kollektivdrama schildert eine Fabrik, in welcher Maschinenmenschen erzeugt werden, die sich schließlich gegen ihre eigenen Schöpfer wenden. Capek erwähnt erstmals den 'Roboter', von wo aus er in viele Sprachen Eingang fand. Mit dem Firmennamen Rossum spielt Capek auf die "Vernunft", tschechisch rozum, des künstlichen Menschen an. In der Übersetzung hat der deutsch-tschechische Otto Pick (1887-1940) dieses Wortspiel als 'Werstand' wiedergegeben. Dabei: Capek, Das Absolutum oder die Gottesfabrik, 1924. 205 S. 8°. Ill. OPp. - Papierbedingt sehr zart u. gleichmäßig gebräunt, wohlerhaltenes Exemplar.

Contemporary cardboard binding with spine title (slightly scuffed, rubbed and bumped, joints with small tears). - German first edition - translation of the 1920 drama "RUR - Rossum's Universal Robots" by Czech writer Karel Capek. The collective drama depicts a factory in which machine people are created who ultimately turn against their own creators. Capek first mentions 'robot', from where it entered many languages. With the company name Rossum, Capek alludes to the 'reason', Czech rozum, of the artificial human. In translation, the German-Czech Otto Pick (1887-1940) rendered this pun as 'Werstand'. Added: as mentioned above. - Paper very delicately a. evenly browned, well preserved copy.
