North America, United States, ca. 1787 CE. The first USA copper penny known as the Fugio or Franklin cent, minted under the Congress of the Confederation of the United States. The obverse has a sun over a sundial with "FUGIO" to the left and the date to the right- which is nearly indiscernible on this coin, and "MIND YOUR BUISNESS" below – a motto attributed to Benjamin Franklin. The image of the sundial and Latin inscription "fugio" refer to time passing and together with Franklin's adage, the face can be interpreted as "time flies, do your work." The reverse side contains 13 chain links to represent the 13 united colonies / states and "UNITED STATES" encircling the other motto "WE ARE ONE."
