Item Details
Description
Western Europe, France or Spain, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A matching pair of iron cage stirrups with thick bards cupping the rider's foot for protection and to prevent the foot from slipping forward off the footplate. This type of cage stirrup originated in Europe, likely France, and spread to other regions and to Colonial Southwestern United States and Mexico. The underside of both footplates is stamped "MI" suggesting Mexican origin for this pair. Size: 6" L x 5.5" W x 5.75" H (15.2 cm x 14 cm x 14.6 cm)
